Jeb Bush will shamble forward through Iowa and New Hampshire like the most preppily-dressed zombie on “The Walking Dead.” after all, zombies don’t know they are dead until you drive a stake through their brains.
Bush may not yet have packed it in, but we might as well start shoveling dirt on his campaign, the chances he can overcome poll numbers consistently stuck in single digits, the baggage of his last name and his near-daily gaffes, are slim to none.
All that said, the signs of a flailing, fading operation are everywhere, Bush’s third-quarter fundraising haul was mediocre. Last week Politico published two stories examining the campaign’s financial problems.
No wonder Bush has moved to cut staff salaries and reduce other expenses. From the beginning, he concentrated on building a full-service, front-runner campaign, but that’s not the position he is now in.
Above all, there is the inarticulateness that makes Jeb! Bush’s father and brother sound like Cicero.
The U.S. funded the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan by borrowing rather than by raising taxes, the resulting budget deficit had two consequences for the American economy. First, it provided a persistent fiscal stimulus of about 2 percent of GDP that sustained the economic expansion.
As a result, unemployment fell from 6.25 percent in 2002 to 4.5 percent on the eve of the crisis. Second, the capital inflows that financed the budget deficit strengthened the dollar, thereby reducing the competitiveness of American manufacturing. As commonly noted, American manufacturing shed 3 million manufacturing jobs during this period.
The U.S. chose to fund its military buildup for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan produced an economic boom, out of which emerged a housing bubble
Jeb Bush Tweeted How pathetic for @realdonaldtrump to criticize the president for 9/11. We were attacked & my brother kept us safe. He's now putting the words attacked and kept us safe in the same sentence! Jeb Bush is one step away from citing 9/11 as evidence that George W. Bush prevented 9/11, Jeb, what are you talking about?
