The eight years of relative quiet that followed the Second Lebanon War of 2006 are over, the northern border is back to being an active arena in the Israel-Islamist conflict.
The Iranian/Hezbollah determination to drive the Syrian rebels away from the border area is clearly intact, this ambition lies at the root of the tensions on Israel's northern border.
The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh announced on February 2nd that his country has exported technology to Hezbollah "for the production of missiles and other equipment, and they can now stand against the Zionist regime."
Syrian army soldiers along with a few hundred Hezbollah fighters indeed did take control of individual villages and several outposts.
Syrian army troops and Hezbollah fighters are focused on trying to take over the center of the Syrian Golan Heights, near the main road between Damascus and the border town of Quneitra.
The Syrian army did not send elite fighters to the combat zone, but rather regular forces that had already been operating in the area. The same is true for the Hezbollah operatives fighting in the Golan Heights, it appears the Shiite organization has not made use of the advanced weaponry in its possession, as it did in other arenas.
On Friday Syrian troops recaptured a key town in the southern province of Daraa, moving closer to a key hilltop in that province, Syrian government forces wrested back control over the village of Habariyeh, killing many fighters of the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front.
The IRGC-N announced on 27FEB15 it had test-fired a "new strategic weapon" in the final day of the Great Prophet 9 exercise.
"The new weapon will have a very decisive role in adding our naval power in confronting threats,"
The new front that the Iranians want to create against Israel is no secret whatsoever, Iranian security and military officials have been very public about their willingness to arm those Palestinians that want to resist the Israeli occupation of their homeland in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has gone on overdrive stating that the Iranians have been opening new fronts against Israel. Netanyahu claims that Israel faces a threat from Tehran on six different fronts. These fronts are (1) Lebanon, (2) Syria, (3) the Gaza Strip, (4) Egypt’s volatile Sinai Peninsula, (5) Israel’s interests and missions abroad, and (6) the Iranian nuclear energy program.
As the interest of Israel decrease with each passing day, as he who is destine to sign the agreement with the Beast fail at everything he does to the detriment of the nation
Netanyahu is engaging in behavior that is without precedent, he is apparently so desperate to stay in office that he has let the Republicans weaponize his country in their struggle against a Democratic president they despise, Boehner seeks to do damage to Obama, and he has turned Netanyahu into an ally in this cause, it's not entirely clear here who is being played.
Congress will applaud Netanyahu, but the power is in the hands of the president. What will Netanyahu gain from this trip? I just don't get it. What's his objective – applause? This trip is a failure waiting to happen.
The person that has caused Israel the most strategic damage when it comes to the Iranian issue is the prime minister
Dagan is convinced that the current status quo poses a danger to Israel. We have to reach an agreement with the Palestinians, he said. "Netanyahu's actions are leading us towards a bi-national state, and I don't want a bi-national state. I don't want Abbas as the prime minister of my country. Continuing to establish facts on the ground in the territories will inevitably lead us to an apartheid state."
