The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants executed at least 46 members of a tribe that fought against them in Iraq's Anbar province, a local leader and a doctor said on Wednesday.
The men from the Albu Nimr tribe were killed in an area overrun by the militants last week north of the town of Heet, the sources said.
Meanwhile in Washington, Pentagon chief Chuck Hagel acknowledged last week "mixed" results in the war effort but said: "We believe that our strategy is working."
Sheikh Raad Abdul Sattar Suleiman, a senior member of the Dulaim tribe of the western province of Anbar, urged the international community to refrain from taking part "in another failed battle" in Iraq.
