Names of the Dead

"The Department of Defense has identified 2,118 American service members who have died as a part of the Afghan war and related operations. It confirmed the death of the following American recently:

BROWN, Milton W., 28, Specialist, Navy; Dallas; Strike Fighter Squadron 137.

US-led soldier serving with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has been killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan

"The US-led military mission says the soldier was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) in southern part of the country.

The incident occurred in the town of Ma’ruf when a group of foreign and Afghan troops were patrolling. Four afghan security agents and an American contractor were also killed in the attack.

According to the website, 354 foreign troops, including 271 US soldiers, have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.

A total of 566 US-led forces died in Afghanistan in 2011. However, 2010 remains the deadliest year for foreign military casualties, with a death toll of 711."
