"The Department of Defense has identified 1,923 American service members who have died as a part of the Afghan war and related operations. It confirmed the deaths of the following Americans recently:

FAUST, Aaron M., 22, Cpl., Marines; Louisville, Ky.; Second Marine Division.

HIGGINS, Tanner S., 23, Sgt., Army; Yantis, Tex.; First Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.

MARTINEZ, Alex, 21, Cpl., Marines; Elgin, Ill.; First Marine Division.

NOWACZYK, David P., 32, Staff Sgt., Army; Dyer, Ind.; Fourth Infantry Division.

TARWOE, Abraham, 25, Lance Cpl., Marines; Providence, R.I.; Second Marine Division.

SCHILLER, Philip C. S., 21, Specialist, Army; The Colony, Tex.; Second Infantry Division.

These attacks send the unequivocal message to the Afghan people that their government is vulnerable and thus unable to protect them.

As usual, political leaders and military commanders have downplayed these latest attacks as yet another “one-off” incident.

Americans (should)know better. To them, these attacks—and the photos—will serve as yet another stunning reminder of how poorly things are going, and why we need to leave."
