Not a pretty scenario' in Iraq
"A suicide car bomber targeting a Shiite funeral procession in Baghdad killed dozens Friday, the latest attack in a country engulfed by political crisis and an uptick in violence.
At least 31 people died and 60 others were wounded, two police officials said. The bombing occurred as mourners were heading toward a hospital in Baghdad's Zafarniya district to recover the bodies of relatives shot the night before, officials said.
The blast is the latest in a series of attacks, raising fears of a return to the sectarian violence of the previous decade when the Sunni-Shiite hostilities engulfed Iraq at the height of the war."
"It was a huge explosion," Hussein said. As he took his worker to the hospital, Hussein said he saw cars engulfed in flames, "human flesh scattered around and several mutilated bodies in a pool of blood" around where the attacker's car had exploded."
Zafaraniyah resident Talib Bashir, 50, said he was part of the procession of about 500 men but left the group to take his child home when he heard the blast.
"I saw smoke coming from a parked car that had exploded," Bashir said, adding that police and civilians cars, an ambulance van and several stores were engulfed in flames hours after the blast. "The fire lasted for a long time," Bashir said.
Minutes after the blast, gunmen opened fire at a checkpoint in Zafaraniyah, killing two policemen, according to police officials."

The average daily death toll since the withdrawal has been about 11. Last year, the average daily death toll was nine."
Afghanistan: Suicide Bomber Kills 4
"A suicide bomber exploded a car near a British reconstruction team traveling in a convoy through the center of Lashkar Gah in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, killing four Afghans, including a child, and wounding 31 others, the provincial governor’s office and the British government said.
Three British citizens were hurt in the explosion, Britain’s Foreign Office said. It was unclear whether the convoy was the target of the attack. The reconstruction team is one of dozens across Afghanistan in which civilian and military personnel lead efforts to build roads and schools and to help local governments become more effective. Lashkar Gah was among the first cities where Afghan security forces assumed sole control last summer in the first stage of a transition from American security."

Some Burnet County residents worry about water running out
"Slogging through the muddy yard, peppered with sprouting grasses and bluebonnets, the neighborhood doesn't look like it is suffering through a drought, much less being just days away from running out of water.
Jane Gannaway said she and her husband are worried about running out of drinking water after the Lower Colorado River Authority, which owns the retail water system and well serving about 1,100 people in and around their neighborhood, declared a stage 4 water emergency Tuesday, projecting a water well to run dry in a few days.
LCRA engineers are investigating the cause of the rapid drop, Rowney said; there was not a spike in water use Monday night, and there may have been a leak inside the well.
The well level had stabilized Wednesday, Rowney said, but the water will only last for a few more days before the LCRA needs to truck in water. The LCRA is finalizing a deal with a trucker that would also require state regulatory approval."
