30 Americans Killed as Taliban Shoot Down a Copter
"In the deadliest day for American forces in the nearly decade-long war in Afghanistan, insurgents shot down a Chinook transport helicopter on Saturday, killing 31 Americans and 7 Afghan commandos on board, American and Afghan officials said.
American officials said later Saturday that 22 of the dead were members of a Navy SEAL unit, along with other American servicemembers and the Afghan unit. The helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in the Tangi Valley of Wardak Province to the west of Kabul
It occurred after a night raid, a tool that has been praised by American commanders as one of the most effective in the recent military offensive, though the raids have been heavily criticized by Afghan officials and civilians.
Saturday’s attack shows how deeply entrenched the insurgency remains even far from its main strongholds in southern Afghanistan and along the Afghan-Pakistani border in the east.
Gen. Abdul Qayum Baqizoy, the police chief of Wardak, said the attack occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday after an assault on a Taliban compound in the village of Jaw-e-Mekh Zareen, American soldiers had recently turned over the sole combat outpost in the Tangi Valley to Afghans"
"They wanted to attack our mujahideen who were in a house, but our mujahideen resisted and destroyed a helicopter with a RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) rocket"
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said by telephone from an undisclosed location."
"The casualties included members of SEAL Team Six, the special operations unit that carried out the raid in Pakistanthis spring that killed Osama bin Laden"
Even so, the casualties are a major blow for the close-knit and secretive unit only months after it carried out the greatest victory in its history."
"The US chopper that crashed last night was shot down by the Taliban as it was taking off. A rocket fired by the militants hit it and completely destroyed it"

Despite Billions in Aid Afghanistan Lacks Stability
"Afghanistan still lacks political and economy stabilities despite billions of dollars in aid spent in Afghanistan over a decade, a report by the international Crisis Group said.
"Despite billions of dollars in aid, state institutions remain fragile and unable to provide good governance, deliver basic services to the majority of the population or guarantee human security."
The report compares the severity of corruption in Afghanistan with Somalia and Myanmar.
"There is no possibility that any amount of international assistance to the Afghan National Security Forces will stabilise the country in the next three years unless there are significant changes in international strategies, priorities and programmes,"
Around $57 billion in aid has been spent in Afghanistan, but still the Afghan government lacks a strong and defensive army that could ensure peace and stability of the country.
"As more and more districts come under Taliban control, despite US claims of substantial progress, and the insurgency spreads to areas regarded until recently as relatively secure, displacement and humanitarian needs are also rising,"
To fulfill what the May 15th Prophecy have warn all along concernig the effect of the bailouts that sold the U.S. into bondage "And a bill that caries the stigma as unproven to work (it won't); That could have devastating economic consequences.(it will)!"
"In response to the question, “why now?,” Steven Pearlstein in the Washington Post writes that structural problems in the United States and global economies that caused the 2008 crisis were “never really fixed.”
Some economists are concerned that slow growth in the U.S. economy may itself be a driving factor in the road to a potential recession. Weak growth could undercut consumer and business confidence, instill a loss of faith in the recovery of stock prices, and prompt fears in the credit market.
The recent annual revision of the U.S. GDP indicates the recession seems to have been deeper and the recovery more anemic than previously thought.
These hurdles come as China and other rising economic powers are trying to slow their economies to combat inflation. Central bank interventions in Europe and Japan (FT) were unable to quell investor fears over slow economic growth and a eurozone debt crisis.
Writing for the New York Times, Floyd Norris notes that the U.S. economy could be entering a double-dip recession, a second period of decline where the U.S. government is preoccupied with cutting spending and typical policies aimed at combating economic weakness have been taken off the table.
The Economist reports that ”All financial-market signs now point to a return to economic contraction,” including a nearly 10 percent drop in the S&P 500 in the last two weeks and market expectations of rising inflation. "
For the first time in history, the rating agency Standard and Poor's (S&P) has downgraded the United States' credit worthiness, expressing a lack of confidence in Washington's ability to implement policies aimed at reforming the world's largest economy.
The credit-rating downgrade came less than a week after a last minute resolution concluded a bitter partisan political fight over raising the nation's $14.3 trillion (10 billion euros) debt ceiling. Republicans and Democrats cobbled together an agreement to cut $2.5 trillion in spending in exchange for raising the ceiling by an equal amount.
S&P, however, said Washington needed to cut $4 trillion in order to puts its finances on the right track and that the polarized political system in the US had reduced its ability to resolve its economic woes."
