Binocular Snapshot for 3/01/2011

LastDayWatchers in 2007 you were warned "Watch how the United State and all the so called moderate muslum leaders continue to lie about the uprising of the Uammah"

US Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Tuesday that protests across the Arab world have dealt a major setback to Al-Qaeda militants and Iran by endorsing democratic change

"With a wave of unrest and protests toppling regimes in Egypt and Tunisia and prompting reforms elsewhere, Gates said grass-roots movements "are an extraordinary setback for Al-Qaeda."

"Because the contrast in the behavior of the militaries in Tunisia and in Egypt, and -- except for a brief period of violence -- in Bahrain, contrast vividly with the savage repression that the Iranians have undertaken against anybody who dares to demonstrate," Gates explained"

"The resurgence of Shiite identity demonstrated not only in Iraq but also in Lebanon and the Persian Gulf helped shift the balance of power in the direction of Iran"

At the same time, Turkey has emerged as a regional power, trying to fill the vacuum created by the decline of effective U.S. power to shape outcomes in the region.

The “liberation” of Iraq and the ensuing Freedom Agenda have not given birth to liberal democracy in Mesopotamia. The entire project empowered the Shiite majority and the Kurdish minority in Iraq—while emasculating the old Sunni elite.

From the perspective of the nationalism narrative, what we are witnessing today is the continuing erosion of a U.S.-backed order by national-based insurgencies.

In fact, the first episode in the current series of political changes in the Middle East was not Tunisia’s Jasmine Revolution, but the collapse of Lebanon’s pro-American government under pressure from Hezbollah, a development that clearly doesn’t fit into the liberal-democracy narrative

The U.S. tried to maintain the regional status quo in the aftermath of the Cold War by using its military power during the two Gulf wars and through its support for Israel and the autocratic Arab regimes. But these efforts only helped accelerate the revival of nationalism and other forms of ethnic, sectarian, and tribal identities."

"Iranian warships' presence in the Mediterranean Sea for the first time after 32 years is a great move that is going to cripple Israel."

At a ceremony in honor of the Iranian Navy Commander Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, Habib said

Ehud Barak. In a radio interview Monday, Feb. 28, he brushed aside the Iranian warships' passage through the Suez as "an outing for cadets"

which did not require an Israeli response. He added, "For now, there is no operational threat to Israel."

According to Barak, the Suez Canal is open to all of the world's warships and the two Iranian vessels' transit could not have been prevented.

He omitted to explain how Egypt did prevent it for 30 years and why it was permitted now.

God curse of the Bush/Obama Administrations will continue

"Concerns that the Fed is debasing the dollar are completely “overrated,” according to Bernanke"

“Commodity prices have risen significantly in terms of all major currencies, suggesting that changes in the foreign exchange value of the dollar are unlikely to have been an important driver of the increases seen in recent months.”

"The Fed projects U.S. gross domestic product growth in a range of 3.5% to 4% for 2011, Mr. Bernanke said, and there may be reason for optimism on the jobs front in the coming quarters"
