Series of bombs kills 10 in Iraqi capital

"A series of bombs in and around the Iraqi capital killed 10 people on Sunday, and an intelligence official warned of a campaign to undermine security before a much anticipated meeting of Arab heads of state in March.

The senior Iraqi official also said insurgents appeared to be taking advantage of the government's delay in appointing a new interior minister, who runs the nation's security forces

The three-hour drumbeat of explosions began around 7 a.m. in Baghdad's rush hour at the start of the local workweek. Besides the dead, 34 people were wounded.

The attacks appeared to involve roadside bombs, suicide bombers and car bombs"

"Also north of Baghdad, two teenage boys were killed when a roadside bomb targeting an anti-Qaeda Sunni militiaman exploded in the town of Tarmiyah"

The boys, aged 13 and 14, were on their way to school when the bomb exploded. The militiaman, a member of the Sahwa (Awakening) forces that turned against Al-Qaeda and sided with the US military from late 2006, was unharmed.

A Sahwa leader and three of his bodyguards were, meanwhile, wounded when their car was hit by a roadside bomb near the oil-rich northern city of Kirkuk

Blasts in the past week, which included suicide bombs, killed 116 people and wounded scores more. They targeted security force members and Shiite pilgrims ahead of major commemoration ceremonies and struck in the cities of Tikrit, Baquba, Baghdad and Karbala

"Police identified a member of the Sunni Awakening movement detained in connection with the Karbala blasts as Fadel Karim Yusef Abdullah Al-Janabi, the brother of notorious former Sunni lawmaker Abdul Nasir al-Janabi"

"It [Iran] has to be confronted and changed. Iran is a looming challenge. It is negative and destabilizing. It supports terrorists,"

Blair, who currently serves as the Quartet envoy to the Middle East said at the Chilcot inquiry"

"I say this to you with all of the passion I possibly can -- at some point the West has to get out of what I think is a wretched policy or posture of apology"

"The fact is they [Iran] are doing it because they disagree fundamentally with our way of life and they'll carry on doing it unless they are met by the requisite determination and, if necessary, force."

Blair said he saw Iran's negative influence everywhere, supporting terrorism and impeding progress in the Middle East peace process. U.S. President Barack Obama's offer of a hand of friendship in 2009 had been roundly rejected"
