Discrepancy calls Afghan voter turnout into question
"Afghanistan's electoral process suffered a huge blow to its credibility after investigators found evidence of widespread fraud in the 2009 presidential election. The United Nations eventually disqualified more than 1 million fraudulent votes.
"We believe and hope that they learned a lesson that massive fraud will be detected and is unacceptable," Staffan de Mistura, the U.N. special representative for Afghanistan, told CNN.
At the polls on Saturday, many voters and candidates expressed doubt and skepticism about the election, which came with a price tag of approximately $150 million.
"I saw fraud many places," said Jamil Karzai, a parliament member who was running for re-election."

Lebanon on verge of 'new wave of insanity'
"Lebanon teetered on the edge of a “new wave of insanity” Sunday as Hizbullah and the Future Movement traded angry accusations of undermining the state.
The mudslinging came after Jamil al-Sayyed, a former chief of General Security, returned to Beirut and announced he was commencing legal action against State Prosecutor Saeed Mirza’s request for interrogation.
Sayyed, who came back to Lebanon on Saturday under heavy Hizbullah and Lebanese Army security, called Mirza’s actions “illegal” and based upon “false evidence.”
Hizbullah Gunmen Escort Sayyed from Airport Runway in Move Described as 'Invasion' of the Facility
"Vehicles with Hizbullah gunmen inside have reportedly welcomed former General Security Department chief Maj. Gen. Jamil Sayyed at a tarmac at Beirut airport and took him to the VIP lounge that he used without a previous permit from the foreign ministry, in what was described as "an invasion of the airport."
An Nahar newspaper said Sunday that following a press conference at the lounge during which he unleashed his rage on several officials, Hizbullah took private security measures to escort Sayyed to his home in Beirut's Jnah neighborhood."
Sayyed Describes Hizbullah's Airport Welcome as Popular, Political Support: I Resort to State Institutions
"Sayyed was reportedly accompanied from the airport by "armed Hizbullah bodyguards" when he returned to Beirut on Saturday after a short visit to France.
He described the welcoming he received at the airport from Hizbullah and its allies as "a political and popular support."
"I have been demanding since five years to hold false witnesses accountable under the law, but it seems that when you resort to law in a country such as Lebanon, state officials take you lightly unless you have political and popular support," said Sayyed.
"I'm the son of the State and I served it for 40 years, and hence I resort to (state) institutions. I only said that there's a political group that had fabricated false witnesses, and citizens have the right to utilize all manifestations of expression, protest and street demonstrations against this group, as practiced in all democratic nations."
Hizbullah units successfully test new Iranian missile
"Special Hizbullah units in Iran have successfully launched and tested a new Iranian missile “Fatah 110,” according to a report by Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai.
The report, which was carried by Israel’s Channel 2 and Jerusalem Post, was also posted on the website of Hizbullah’s Al-Manar television.
The report said the Iranian missile, which was displayed with great pride in Tehran less than a month ago, has a maximum range of 200 kilometers. This means it is capable of reaching occupied Jerusalem and Ashdod if it was to be launched from the Lebanese border. The Kuwait newspaper said the test launches took place in Iran since such an event could not take place in Lebanon.
“The test was successful and part of the units which participated returned to their bases in Lebanon,” unidentified officials told Al-Rai.
Hizbullah has formulated a “bank of targets” in Israel such as “power stations and sensitive institutions” across the country, the sources added.
According to Iranian figures publicized in August, the missile is 9 meters in length and weighs 3,500 kilograms. It is powered by solid fuel propellant and is the third version of the missile, which has existed for several years within the Iranian military"

Ahmadinejad: Iran economy isn't suffering from West's sanctions
"These sanctions will definitively mark a new level of progress in our economy," Ahmadinejad told ABC News in an interview in New York. "We have turned sanctions around and created opportunities out of this."
The Iranian president insisted that the sanctions will have no crippling effect on businessmen trying to trade or on Iran's shipping industry.
"None of this is a problem," he said. "I want to stress, it is not a problem. If you want to say it's effective, why not wait for the next six months or a year to see with your own eyes whether there are effects or not? And I tell you there are none."
